1894

Hans-Joachim Balcke

Engineer Hans-Joachim Balcke founded the engineeering company Balcke & Co. in Bochum, Germany on October 1, 1894.

First Chimney Cooler

Balcke's first chimney cooler was built for Elektrizitäts AG, formerly Schuckert & Co., in Nuremberg and stood 12 meters tall.

1896

Balcke contracts to design and supply the “Cold End” of steam processes in power and chemical plants, which includes condenser, cooling water pumps, piping and cooling tower. Balcke acquires a stake in the pump factory “Bettinger und Balcke”.

1897

Balcke acquires Propper, an Austrian cooling company and establishes offices in Vienna, Austria and St. Peterburg, Russia.

1898

Balcke establishes offices in Berlin, Paris and London.

1899

Balcke moves into a new office building.
